About myself, my goals and M·A·C
James, you already know me, maybe that's enough to see that I have a broad range of interests sometimes giving my portfolio a slightly schizophrenic look. I will take more direct and personal approach to this and know you understand my broad proclivities. You can read the hard facts below and see where I've been. Since I last saw you I have worked in both jewellery and bag related projects. I literally lived in a handbag factory for a few years and really got to know a lot about textiles and bags. Unfortunately I do not have a lot of photos from that period, but suffice to say that developing for Wal-Mart does not necessarily make for items I would put in my portfolio, but in practical terms it made me a material expert. I have put my favourite bags from my days at Canadian based bag maker in the photos. As you may know I have been involved in the jewellery industry for most of my life and am currently developing items for the Thai and North American market with a jewellery company here in Thailand. I have continued my own work, painting, writing and general interest in all things design related. I stuck my foot in the M·A·C door a few years ago with Lashquarade, it was a fun little project and got stuck in my head, it reminded me of how much I miss working with M·A·C. I now have a much broader knowledge base and work with partners here that can have a wide range of talents including digital printing on fabric or non traditional surfaces, jewellery manufacturing with credible partners and display related partners. If you have any project you want to pass by me I will be glad to offer my services. I would love to give the M·A·C ID a shot, and have done some sketches free of charge, no strings attached. I think I figured out the one issue that always bothered me about the old pin I did for M·A·C, the floating dots, with current technology it's possible to make small round bars to hold the dots up as well as fill in the space in the "M" and "A" with black plating, making for the effect of a floating metal logo, since all employees wear black this is a pretty simple solution to the logo issue. I also did a bracelet sketch, I have a few more concepts I am developing along this idea, hope yo don't mind. As you know I also did a lot of store display related work, I love the challenge of a new idea, and I am pretty much a realist about what can and cannot be done, despite all my meanderings. Just ask, I will give a real answer, based on what I can actually do here and now.
